Innaminka to Arraburry

Innaminka to Arraburry
Due to updated information, I have a two plan option for getting to Birdsville from Innaminka. Here is the PREFERED and safest way. Thanks to some very good friends who are crossing this very section of our country as I write these posts, I have decided to take their advice and change the route to Birdsville from Innaminka. I was going to use the “Cordillo Road” up to Cordillo Downs, however I am now told that there is fist size rocks everywhere on the road and around the area and this means lots of torn and damaged tires. I’m also told that this section of road is not for the faint hearted but rather the SEASONED rider of off road riding. Since I am no seasoned rider, I have decided to change the route and head towards Arrabury, and then towards the Birdsville Development Road. Yes it is much much further, and no fuel means we will be taking on extra at Innaminka, but we will be able to open the throttle much more and know our wheels are rolling on a better dirt road with more traffic in case we break down.

Although this photo looks a tad photoshopped, at least we get a good idea of the condition of the road. I'm assured this is a better option than the Cordillo Road that is more direct but is full of fist size rocks along the road.

Road to Arrabury

Road to Arrabury
Our first stop and overnight is at spot called Arrabury. It' located 154klm from Innaminka, so its not a big drive. If the road conditions allow us to pick up distance and pace, we may well edge closer to Birdsville before calling it a night. The total distance to Birdsville from Innaminka via Arrabury us 504 klm.

THE ORIGINAL PLAN, but due to very large rocks scattered everywhere on the Cordillo Road that will damage tires, I've decided to not use this option, but here it is. After a day of rest in Innaminka, it’s time to push on again. Now we are headed north for Birdsville. Yes it’s possible to make the trip in one extra long, hard riding day, but let’s not forget why we are here, we are here to enjoy the ride and see the country. If we wanted to rush as Burke and Wills did, we would be opening ourselves to a whole host of possible accidents. So instead, we’ll be taking our time and simply aiming to reach “Cordillo Downs Station” 173 klm distance. It’s nothing special, but we can get water and rest in a safe place with lots of stunning images of real Australia to take photos of.

Some of the sites we'll see along the way. Now I am told that this stretch of road is mostly good but too many fist size rocks infront of us and there is about 40klm of really lose sloppy sand spread our in sections of the ride. It may be 173klm only but it will take time to make it across this stretch of road.
